Hurricane Ranch

A fully custom house for a couple moving up from Texas, with roots in Washington state. They wanted both places in it — Texas in the scale and the porch, the Pacific Northwest in the wood and the way the light gets handled.

The main floor splits about evenly between private space and space for entertaining. A solarium picks up the eastern view across the property, and a deep overhang porch wraps from the main entry around to the driveway, so nobody arrives in the rain.

Inside, a custom curved stair opens the center of the house and the vaulted ceilings carry large rough-hewn beams over tongue-and-groove. Natural materials throughout — the light and the texture do the heavy lifting. A one-of-a-kind house tucked into the Appalachian foothills.
