Who we are

Guiding homeowners from first sketch to final build with intentional, client-centric design—that’s our compass bearing. Compass Design Studio is a boutique architecture and interiors practice rooted in Midwest integrity, Southern hospitality, and a quiet, faith-shaped commitment to service. We begin with conversation, translate what matters into plans, and steward decisions so the journey stays calm and clear.

Your project receives white-glove attention with a small-firm heartbeat: a single point of contact, clearly defined milestones, monthly site visits, and a concierge selections process. We curate trusted vendors and artisans, prioritizing local companies and brands so craftsmanship and community both thrive.

We serve Huntsville and Madison, with travel or remote collaborations considered by scope. Our work spans custom homes, high-end remodels, kitchens & baths, interiors, and select light-commercial projects. As our team grows, our promise remains the same: responsive communication, meticulous detail, and a transparent path from idea to keys in hand.

Our Services

Meet the Duo

Compass Design Studio is a husband-and-wife team based in Huntsville. Allison leads as founder and principal designer, bringing years of experience in custom residential and interiors, while Canyon supports as co-founder, focusing on the business side and guiding clients through the process. Together, they combine creativity and strategy to make the design journey simple, personal, and rewarding.

  • Founder & Principal Designer

I grew up among Midwest maples, sketching dream kitchens at the family table, and cut my design teeth shepherding high-end remodels from dusty demo to final punch-list. Today, Compass Design Studio lets me blend that Wisconsin craftsmanship with the generous cadence of Southern hospitality I’ve embraced since moving to the Northern Alabama, Southern Tennessee Valley.

My design language is warm-modern Craftsman: classic gable lines softened by vintage textures, clean layouts that still feel lived-in. Clients tell me they appreciate two things most—my obsessive eye for detail and an empathy that keeps their real-life rhythms at the center of every drawing. Whether I’m refreshing a tired farmhouse kitchen, shaping a backyard rental cabin, or tailoring one of our signature plan sets to a new zip code, my north star is the same: design should serve the people who live it, not the other way around.

When I’m not refining elevations, you’ll find me scouting salvage yards for that perfect antique door or volunteering design support for community housing projects. If you believe home should feel both rooted and ready for tomorrow, let’s start sketching.

  • Co-Founder & Managing Partner

I’m the steady hand behind the scenes—the one who turns beautiful ideas into clear scopes, reliable budgets, and builds that finish well. My background blends construction-adjacent operations with years of leading complex delivery teams, so I’m wired to translate moving parts into a calm, confidence-building process for our clients and partners.

At Compass Design Studio, I shepherd the business and financial side: forecasting and fee strategy, builder and realtor partnerships, pre-construction planning, and the kind of plain-English proposals that make decisions easier. I’m protector of the budget and advocate for the schedule—aligning design intent with real-world constructability, coordinating with estimators and trades, and putting change-order guardrails in place so there are fewer surprises and better outcomes.

Our promise is simple: thoughtful design that’s actually buildable. That’s why I emphasize transparent pricing, milestone-based billing, and proactive communication from first inquiry to final punch list. Whether you’re buying one of our signature plan sets, tailoring it to your site, or engaging us for a full remodel or custom home, my role is to make the path from concept to keys straightforward—and to ensure you always know what happens next, what it costs, and why.

If you value clarity, accountability, and a team that treats your project like a long-term relationship, we’ll get along just fine.
